Who is God?: A God who is able (Genesis 16-18 with a focus on 18:4)

"Is there anything too hard for the LORD?"

What a great question.  Think about it for a moment.  The LORD, the one we just read about creating the world, universe and everything in it (Gen 1-3), the one we just read about sending a flood yet saving one family and all the animals on an ark he gave the blueprints to build (Gen 6-8), the one we just read about who confused and then basically gave people new languages in a single command (Gen 11:1-9), the one we just read about sending serious disease on the house of Pharaoh (because he took another mans wife) and in doing so spared them all from a great sin (Genesis 12:10-20), the one we just read about who victoriously gave 4 allied enemy armies into the hands of one man (Gen 14:1-20), the one we just read about who saw the hardship and heartbreak of a mother and met her where she was at to comfort and guide (Gen 16), "is there anything to hard for this LORD who has done so much in just the first 16 chapters of the bible?".

I think for most the quick answer we would speak after reading this is "no, nothing is to hard for the LORD!"  But words are easy utter.  Truly believing and living out that answer is a different story.  This question was asked of Sarah when she laughed in disbelief that God would fill her womb with a son.  Why did she laugh, why did she doubt, why was this question asked of her?  Because she was 90 years old, beyond her childbearing years.  It was physically impossible for her to conceive a child. When the world, when others, when science, when our understanding, when our insight, when our abilities or lack of abilities tell us something can not be so in our lives, our answer to this question begins to sway away from the truth of who He is and what He can do and we doubt.  During uncertain times and challenges in life our actions and lack of faith shout a much different answer to this question than what our voices say when we reflect on this question during the comforts of life.

No matter what you are going through now or in the days that lie ahead nothing is beyond God's ability.  Nothing is to difficult, nothing is impossible with Him (Luke 1:37).  To answer this question during the uncertainties of life with a resounding yes takes faith.  We walk through life, the ups and the downs, in the faith that God can do anything.  If I put my hope and trust in Him, He will be my strength, my joy, my peace, my satisfaction, my delight, my comfort, my hope, my all in all during all (Eph 4:1-4).  But in order for us to live a life that shows we believe that nothing is too hard for God we must spend time daily reminding and reassuring ourselves of who this God is who loves us and how His power has been proven through His word and even in our own lives up until this point.

I want to encourage each of you to deepen your faith daily by spending time in God's word.  May the goal be to meet God there and to discover His love, His power, His grace, His __________________ (you fill in the blank).  Let your answer always be lived out as a resounding,  "Yes! I know nothing is too hard for the LORD my God!".
