Psalm 25

I often wonder if when David cried out to God he was trying to change God's heart or his own.  As we look at this Psalm we see that prayer means giving ourselves away completely to God, keeping our eyes on Him, and trusting in His sovereignty (v.1,15).  We see that asking for forgiveness is the foundation of laying down our lives and prayer goes beyond just our physical needs.  We are helpless and hopeless without God.  We need Him for protection, direction, and salvation.  When we appeal to God's mercy, we are reminded of His covenant promises of forgiveness and that He brings us back to the "proper path".  We value His promises based on who He is, and who we are in Him as sons and daughters.  As David's heart goes through an ebb and flow of praise to acknowledging his dependence on God, to being comforted by His promises, so should ours.  God is the same, yesterday, today and forever (Heb. 13:8) So today, as we pray, let's allow ourselves to completely surrender and have our hearts changed by His Spirit.
