Mark 12

Last week I went to hear a Messianic speaker who to me, brought a new light to the face of The Messiah, Jesus. The parable of the vineyard made me reflect on what he said.  When Jesus came and made His entrance into Jerusalem many recognized that prophesy was being fulfilled (Zech. 9:9).  What the crowd didn't understand was the Kingdom He was actually establishing. Jesus came to fulfill prophesy and establish His authority here on earth.  A new Kingdom - belonging to God. His authority put the Jewish leaders in a tailspin simply because they felt challenged to defend their position. They just weren't "feeling the love".  One of the many ways Jesus explained it was in this parable. God is the One who plants the vineyard - the nation of Israel.  The religious leaders are the tenants and the servants are the prophets and priests who remained faithful to God by revealing His Word and His plan for the nation. The Son of course is Jesus, The Messiah.  The religious leaders were so caught up in their laws and traditions that they failed at actually bringing people closer to God.  So God sends His Son to fulfill the prophesies, and become the cornerstone - the foundation - of the new church.  Then, just as now, there was a lot of hypocrisy and politics covering up the One truth.  God sent His Son to establish His reign and dominion here on earth.  King Jesus is coming back to sit on His throne and rule forever.  Our mission while we wait for His return is to be like the servants in the parable - remain faithful to God and continue to carry the Gospel to the nations.
