Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God." And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life. "For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. And the judgment is based on this fact: God's light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. (John 3:3, 14-17, 19 NLT)

John 3 is probably the most quoted chapter in the Bible, and that all centers around verse 16. It is the first verse that most people ever learn, and it talks about the most important happening in human history. God the Father, the creator of the universe, sent his creation-assistant, and most loved Son, part of Himself, to this earth to die in a most unfathomable manor, so that we can have eternal life. This might be the most important chapter in the Bible. Why is that you may ask? Because we as Christ-followers, need to be able to, just like Jesus did here with Nicodemus, explain what re-birth is all about. We NEED to understand this. It is the cornerstone of our mission as believers. We are born of water, and we are born of the Spirit. Born of water is talking about our physical birth into this earth, and born of the Spirit is talking about our inviting Christ into our lives, and the pouring out of the Holy Spirit that happens when we surrender to His will. We are eternal beings, and Jesus wants us to spend that eternity with Him.
