When Moses had finished reciting all these words to the people of Israel, he added: "Take to heart all the words of warning I have given you today. Pass them on as a command to your children so they will obey every word of these instructions [Torah].  These instructions [Torah] are not empty words—they are your life!  By obeying them you will enjoy a long life in the land you will occupy when you cross the Jordan River."  (Deuteronomy 32:45-47)

We often associate the word Torah with Law.  But, Torah also means "Movement, Direction, or Way."  God had been Moving and operating in the life of Israel for quite some time (ever since Abraham).  He sent Moses to give them Direction and lead them out of Egypt into the land that God wanted to give them.  They took a long, hard, roundabout way to get to this Promised Land because they didn't want to listen to God's Way and have faith in His words.  But, now God was ready to show them both the way into the land and the way to stay in the land.  It was through God's Ways – through Moving in God's Direction, Torah.  This was the pathway to life – following God.  God was saying, "Sing the songs of life – teach them to your kids.  These lyrics will bring you life if you follow them."

On Sunday, Pastor Scott taught us about listening prayer and we practiced it.  He told us that we should pray, asking God to give us a promise from His Word.  What promise has God given you?  That promise, and the pathway to that promise, is God's Word that He has fully given to you through Jesus Christ.

Lord, give us a promise from Your Word and help us to stay on Your pathway.

Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. (Psalm 25:4)Jesus answered, "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)
