Psalm 102

Jim Croce wrote a song in the 70's name "Time in a Bottle."

If I could save time in a bottle. The first thing I'd like to do.

Is to save everyday till eternity passes away, just to spend them with you.

If I could make days last forever. If words could make wishes come true.

I'd save everyday like a treasure and then again, I'd spend them with you.

The truth is we can't save time in a bottle and Jim proved that himself because he died in a plane crash at the age of 30.  The Psalmist said it this way, ""My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass. But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever." Life is like our breath on a cold day, it is there, we can see it, and then it quickly passes away. Set next to the eternity of God human like seems like flower that blooms in the morning and then it withers at the end of the day.

Today is a difficult day. Our family will lay our father to rest in just a few hours.  There are so many emotions associated with his passing but one truth is clear. Life is short. And because it is short it should be spent wisely. We only have one short lifetime. We would be foolish to misspend a single hour. So, we need someone to show us how to spend time wisely. The Lord is the mentor we need.

If you want to live your life wisely, consider writing out your eulogy today. What do you want to be said about you at the end of your life?  If you begin at the end, you will live life better today.

Kathie and I would covet your prayers this morning as we walk through this valley.
