Matthew 21   Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: "'The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? Anyone who stumbles over that stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush anyone it falls on."

Jesus is in a battle with the heavyweights of his day. They are taking shots at him left and right. Jesus shares 2 parables and then pronounces a prophetic word that will seal their eternal destinies. This word is so powerful that it also seals our destiny. This word is about Jesus himself. Either he is the cornerstone, or he is a crushing stone. The cornerstone is literally the  "head of the corner." It can refer to the foundational cornerstone placed in a building or the last stone placed on a building. The point is clear: Jesus is the one stone that ties all of life together. His life and teachings are foundational truths to build our lives upon. If we reject Jesus as our foundation, we are sealing our own destiny.

If Jesus' teachings irritate you; if you find his words hard and not fitting into your worldview, your plans, and your sexual preferences; if you find his instructions narrow and restrictive, Jesus will become a crushing stone.

But if Jesus becomes the corner of your life, if he guides and directs everything you are and all that you do, then he is your cornerstone. If you live under his authority and his guidance, then he completes your life, rather than complicating it.

The decision is yours and the outcome is your destiny. Choose wisely.
