Exodus 35:4-39:1
Happy first day of February! How exciting that we have all completed one month together! I hope you all are on track…I know it can be hard to find the time sometimes, but I hope you also pray that God would give us the desire to make the time with Him. That has been one of prayers this week: for myself and everyone who is on this journey.
Today was a little bit of a repetition from Sunday's reading and Gina did a great job recapping in her blog. The Tabernacle, the Ark, the lampstands, veil, and everything else that was constructed. A few things to note about God's character: He is so specific!!!! This reminds me of when Noah built the ark. There were exact measurements, materials, and details to how He wanted it completed! Remember, this is where God is going to dwell and this will be part of the Jewish culture for centuries! This is where it all began! It's interesting to me how God made it an option for the people to willingly offer their riches for this and at one point they had so much they had to start turning materials away! There are so many instances when we see the Hebrew people turn away from God, but a comfort to see this moment of sacrifice and willingness from the Israelites, all for God's glory.
The biggest thing that jumped out to me with this story is to again see how sovereign and wise our great God is. So many times we see verses that say, "whom the Lord has given skill," or the Spirit of God filled him with the ability, etc. The Hebrew people were a great a numerous nation, and everyone had a role, a skill, and a gift. There were perfumers, designers, carpenters, artists, and seamstresses and they all played a role in the success of this great and holy place….a place where God would dwell. We all have specific roles, jobs, talents, and gifts. Some of us can teach, have compassion, hospitality, serve, etc. and we are all specifically needed as the body of Christ. We are the laborers now. God calls each one of us to live and work for His glory. God no longer dwells in the Holy of Holies. I can just imagine how breathtaking it must have been with all the gold, designs, and bright colors. But how blessed are we that God now dwells in us! We are the laborers! We are working for His kingdom and we must be unified and work together. Use your talents and gifts for His glory! We are the body of Christ. Encourage one another. Love one another. Take care of one another.
