Chapter 36 Overview:
Since this was a chapter that gives a family account of Esau's family. The reason for such detailed record of peoples who are not in the line of Christ and not otherwise noted for their godliness is that
they were descended of Isaac and primarily of Abraham's family.
Genesis 36:1-10: Allowed us to understand and see the following.
1. Esau's descendants are completely noted.
2. Primarily lived in mount Seir which was south and east of the Dead Sea
and is the present day Jordan.
3. We also find out that Esau and Edom are the same.
Genesis 36:11-19:
1. These verses contain more records concerning his sons and their sons who came to be
known as Chiefs (i.e., princes) or heads of families.
2. In this list is Amalek from which came the Amalekites.
Genesis 36:20-30:
1. A listing is made of the sons of Seir the Horite of which Esau's descendants intermarried.
Some of the them are noted as Chiefs
Genesis 35:31-39
1. The genealogy of Esau keeps listing those who would be kings of Edom prior to
the establishment of the Kings in Israel.
Have you ever done a family tree to see where you came from?
I know that when my sister did our family tree we found our great grand father was the President of Brazil John Goulart. That was pretty interesting to learn and to give better insight to where we all came from.
